Why I Moved

So, I've been asked several times to explain the reasoning behind my move to Utah. For some reason, I never really told anyone why I made my decision. I just kinda told people I was moving, and that was that. So.. here are the actual thoughts that crossed my mind when deciding.

I think you can all guess the main reason behind my move.. this guy.

Yes, I moved for a guy. But it's more like.. I moved for the guy, so you can understand that, right? It was time to quit the long-distance part of our relationship. It took a bit of a leap of faith, but I'm glad I did it. I've never been happier.

There are other reasons behind me moving, though.

For instance, schooling. I was going nowhere fast in my schooling in California. I needed a change of pace and of schools, and a fresh start. The college here gives a perfect opportunity for just that.

A change of scenery. I didn't hate where I lived, but I didn't like it. It's a very ugly place, with a lot of ugly people in it. Crime, gangs.. who wants to be around that?

Work. I realllly didn't like my job. Working with gossipy, menopausal, middle-aged women is not all it's cracked up to be. Not to mention the high schoolers. Going to work everyday was something I dreaded. It left me cranky, sad and tired every single day. The day I put in my two weeks notice, I was already happier. Will I get another job that pays as well? Probably not.. but I'm happier.

Leaving the nest. I didn't mind living with my parents still, at 21. I'm not sure a whole lot of people would. They bought me food, I had a place to sleep, I was well off. It was just time for me to grow up. I knew that if I stayed there, I would be living at home til my mid 20s, if not later. Getting nowhere with school, nowhere with work, nowhere with my life.

In a nutshell, I moved to take control of my life. I felt a little bit desperate for freedom. I really did think over the benefits of me moving. I'm much happier here than I ever could have been in California.

Well that's exciting. I can definitely understand moving for THE guy. I've done the same in a way, but we moved in together. And it also gave me a chance to grow up moving away from home, something I don't think I would have done if I would have stayed at home.

Congrats on the move and I'm glad you're happier! :)

Well I think the fact you moved for THE guy... is a good enough reason in its self! I mean seriously. :) haha. :)

As a person who has moved for THE guy as well I completely understand and support your decision. You, unlike me, have even more reasons for your move where I...well...didn't have any besides it was a new start after college!

SO proud of you and happy that you are happy! :)

Those seem like all the right reasons!

This actually kind of builds up my courage. I've been thinking about making the move from Hawaii to Utah for a while, but I've been really scared about really deciding, and I even put it out of my mind for a while. But this has kind of brought it to the front burner again :)

I'm glad that you're happy! And I hope that you have the time of your life in Utah :)

Sounds like a good plan to me - so are you living alone now? with boyfriend? with a roommate? Whatever your living situation is - it has to be a huge adjustment from living with the rents. I didn't know that you were still living at home - I guess I just assumed that you had a place of your own!

I'm so happy for you! It's so hard to follow through with big plans but the fact that you set your mind to something and did it is awesome! And now that you are happy it makes the decision even better!

I know how it feels to move for THE one. I moved to California for my husband (then boyfriend) and dragged him back to Utah with me. It was a great move and I don't regret a single moment of it.

P.S. Welcome to Utah!!

I absolutely love your blog! Especially this post about moving for THE guy. My boyfriend is talking about going to teach in Japan after he graduates next fall, and there was no doubt in my mind that if he goes, I go. It's exciting and thrilling, scary and wonderful, all at the same time! I'm glad to hear that it has worked out wonderfully for you. :)

I feel like you've probably gotten a lot of crap for moving for a guy, but I totally get it. When you find that one thing you can only find in one person- you have to chase it! Utah is beautiful, by the way, I'm sure you're loving it!

This gives me a lot of hope. There is a girl I really like at the moment, and I would usually try and ignore it if it is long distance, but I really like her... and think there could be a chance.
