Sloppy Joe!

Ok, so I'll let it slip. I work in a high school cafeteria. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I am a lunch lady. Every morning, I wake up and slide on my slip resistant black shoes, slide on my black Dickies and pull on my gray work shirt. I fix my hair into the ever stylish bun, stretch a hairnet over my fat head and tie on my brightly colored apron.

Then I walk on in. I enter the room of women who are all at least 10 years older than me. Their cackles fill the air, and almost overpower the smell of the pizza, and whatever 'special' is being cooked up.

What I hate most about this job? Drama.

There's an extra morning shift at my job. It's supposed to be rotated between all the workers, but it has only been rotated between 3 people, since the beginning of the school year. Someone finally asked why she wasn't rotating everyone, because some of us need extra cash for Christmas. The boss, in essence, told us that she wasn't going to rotate anyone into the morning shift that was struggling with the job they have now.

You may understand how this irks me. I do a great job. I do my work and then some. I keep my temper under control when these brats steal things, and ignore me when I'm yelling for them to put it back. I don't flip out on them when they're yelling at me to get them their food, when I'm clearly trying to help someone else. Sorry I don't have 4 arms. But I do my job well.

So, I talked to my mom. As an outlet. My mom is one of the head honchos over at the food service office. I was in no way trying to get her help.. I was talking to her. Because she's my mom.

Mom decided to tell my bosses boss. Who decided to go talk to my boss.

Dammit.

I can feel the glares already. I can hear my coworkers cackles, because they get the extra hours and not me. I'm aware that I'm being paranoid. But dangit, sometimes I can't stand my job.

(P.S. If you didn't somehow catch the blatant SNL/Chris Farley reference.. please.. please click here.)

My boss came up to me at work Friday and asked me to work double shift starting Nov. 30. I guess it pays to be a big mouth crybaby? Thanks ma!

I'm sure the kids REALLY appreciate you.. even if it doesn't seem like it. There must be a handful that tell you "please" and "thank you" and make your day. :D Way to stick up for your job, and stick with it even thought it can be hard and stressful!

Damn - that sounds like a nightmare job. Also sounds like the perfect setup for a television drama/sitcom about lunch ladies.

Let us know what happens as a result of getting your mom involved.

Btw, love the new background!
