A Couple Things

1. Got somethin to say?

This is my blog. I am a Mormon. Don't like it? Don't visit my blog. Don't leave me comments trying to 'save' me. I don't need to be saved. I need you to leave me and my beliefs alone. Especially if you don't know the first true thing about it. If you read up on what we really believe and still want to discuss it? Feel free.

2. Mockingjay

Photobucket

Mind. Blown. Can we discuss? First off, if you have not read this book yet, you probably shouldn't read much further. You should also go acquaint yourself with the wonder that is the Hunger Games trilogy. It kicks the Twilight series' trash. No joke. Now, if you've finished, feel free to read on and discuss with me. If not, get reading!!

Spoilers

The "real or not real?" thing.. genius. I love how it played into Peeta coming back to Katniss, and finally Katniss realizing the he really is the right one for her.

Speaking of the 'right one'.. Gale. Seriously? How many of you are Team Gale? Now take that hand you raised and smack yourself in the head. I liked Gale well enough in the first two books, but my like pretty much dissolved in Mockingjay. I don't like how quick he was to get angry at Katniss (even if she did the same back). I also didn't like how heartless he appeared to be most of the time. He wanted to kill that mountain full of people. He may have helped design what led to the death of Katniss' sister. I feel like he didn't really care for anyone other than his family and Katniss. And in the end, he ditched Katniss when he found out she would never be his.

Which brings me to Peeta. Sweet, sweet Peeta.. bake my bread.
He makes me swoon, and sigh, and boy do I wish he had more appearances in this book. I'm okay with how S.C. played his role though. He came back, rescued, wanting to kill Katniss. He was programmed to hate her. He tried to kill her. He came back though. With the hope of Delly, of the "Real or not real" game, and with the help of Katniss.. (The hug, the kiss, oh my!) he came back in the end. To what will forever be my favorite line of fiction..

"You love me. Real or not real?"
"Real."

As for Coin, did any of you think she was totally sketchy sketch from the start? She didn't appear to like Katniss at all, which was shady. And she seemed to put on an act. I'm glad Katniss shot her, because I'm pretty sure she may have turned into another President Snow. She had no problem killing people to get her way, and suggesting a final Hunger Games.. so wrong.

My heart broke so many times in this final installment. For Katniss. How she felt responsible for everyone's deaths. Her nightmares. I cried when she sang The Hanging Tree.. and got complete silence just like her father used to get. I cried when she was reunited with Peeta, and he tried to kill her. When her dear sister Prim died. And when Peeta finally came back to her.. and she finally made her choice.

I loved.. loved.. LOVED this book. I hope you did too. Discuss!

Oh I TOTES thought Coin was sketchy. I knew as we reached the end that Katniss was gonna take her down. In my mind, the end would not be perfect for me unless both the Capitol and District 13 via Coin were destroyed.

There was so much heartbreak at the end, but by page 388 S.C. managed to bring us into the light. And that line IS my favorite line in literature! That page is my favorite last page of a book pretty much ever (well, the last page of the last chapter pre-epilogue).

WORD on Gale. He got so sketchy and was such a short-sighted jerk.

I love this post.

Gale is not worthy of Katniss. Katniss rules at life as does Peeta and that is why they are together. I loved the real or not real part at th end. Seriously love.

Kellie, my dear, you SAID IT. serious, genius. I may have to quote you later (I'll give credit where credit is due of course!!)

Gale. I mean, whoa. Talk about a jerk. HE represents the dudes walking around that pretty much want a young girls virtue and wham bam as soon as he's done runs off to find eternal glory in District 2. Seriously, SC might as well given him a moustache to twirl.

Peeta. I adore him. I'm so glad they were able to come together in the end. Neither of them will ever be quite as they were...but they can't live without each other. No one else understands them like each other. They complete each other, truly an wholly.

So. Good.

I'm not completely satisfied with the book. I'm currently in depression from it. I don't like the jump from Katniss being hurt from the bombs that killed her sister to all of a sudden she is in the Capitol's hospital being treated. I just don't like that while the "Mockingjay" fell, that is when the Capitol was taken over? That everyone all of a sudden had power? I don't know, it just is unsettling for me.

And I was pushing for Katniss to choose Gale through this book. I didn't like his ability to spare lives so easily, but I didn't read it as being as harsh as others read it. I don't think him choosing to live in District 2 was wrong either. I think he knew deep down Katniss would choose Peeta and knew it would be so hard for both her to make this decision and for him to live with it if they were living so close to one another. So I don't think it's wrong for him to go somewhere else where he can strive and make a better life out of the horrible lives they lived thus far.

Overall, I'm just left with this depressing, sad outlook on how these broken down "lovers" now live their lives fighting off sudden urges to harm the other (on Peeta's part) and flashbacks that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

I'm seriously going to have depressing dreams tonight :-/

I'm putting this at the top of my "Must Read" list. Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh - and try not to let those people bother you. It's unfortunate we live in a society today where we can respect one another and just work together to form a better world. I should stop here before I get too out of control...

Hope you have a lovely day!

I stopped reading when you told me to :)

btw - I'd never try to change you - sorry you have haters!

I stopped reading too when you said to. I'll read these books eventually. Man, people are just going nuts over them. And boo to whomever told you that. You can't "save" someone like that. Boo! Especially when you have the truth :)

Sam- I see your point with Gale. I just think he had a bigger agenda than Katniss, if that makes sense? He was all about the rebellion. It seemed like he was prepared and willing to do anything he had to in order for it to work out- even if it meant killing innocent people. I hated how it didn't bother him at all. I think the end of the book said it well.. Katniss didn't need any more fire. She had plenty of her own.

Also, I think I may need to read it again, but I think Peeta's urges to kill Katniss subsided. I know they'll both be having terrible nightmares from all that went on, but I don't think Peeta has any urges to hurt her anymore (like I said though.. I might need to read it again to be sure).

holy cupcakes, mockingjay was amazing.
i was OVERJOYED with that line... pure romance, pure endurance.
and what the fuss?! how did i COMPLETELY miss that Katniss shot Coin? where was i? probably speeding through it to see if Katniss would kill herself, end up with stupid Gale (not really stupid, but he seemed all about the war and i didn't care too much for that, plus his stupid bomb..) or if she would end up with Peeta. oh Peeta, so glad he came back... i need to read slower. :)
