In A Nutshell

Remember this poem? I remember first learning it in 7th grade, when reading The Outsiders. And I loved it. Memorized it.

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

SO gorgeous. I just read it over about 3 more times... I love it. Was it in The Outsiders? Do you know the author of the poem?

Allison, I love it! It gets me every time. I haven't read the book in a long time, but it was. I think it first comes up when Ponyboy and his friend run away? The author is Robert Frost!

I never read the Outsiders, so I've never heard that poem before. It reminds me of Lord of the Rings when it says all that is gold does not glitter. I just looked it up, this one:
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king

That picture is beautiful by the way
